And....it's done!

The piece that I had shown progressing (see posts below) is now done and ready to hang! Thanks to an unexpected snow-day and some uninterrupted studio time, I was able to finish this off today. The text reads, "mothers of boys have the trickiest of channels to sail. They must be strong--but not overpowering." You can probably guess from the finished piece that I have three sons, one of whom has flown from the nest...aka 'he's away at college.'

The song lyric on the sheet music at the top of the piece reads, "And tho' I sing a song, it's hard not to cry--" That sums up my feelings about having my boys grow up and begin their own lives. It's bittersweet--on the one hand I'm so proud, but on the other hand I could cry.

the piece is lovely; saw your stuff in one of the stampington pubs and decided to check out your blog. yes, we mother birds have a sweet but hard job when the babes grow up on us. I am way out ahead in that my only birdie left the nest about 12 years ago. She lives far away but stays close. I'm sure your birdies will do the same. Tho I hope for your sake they don't go as far as mine! I know longer enjoy the process of traveling like I used to.

We spend half a life raising them to fly away and the other half putting out seed to lure them back :) (Pam, too)

It came out great and it was fun watching your art progress. I have 3 daughters and they are all gone now with children of their own. The first year after the last one left I felt so strange and I didn't know what to do with myself, it was so quiet! I walked the halls alot and then I finally calmed down and now I create nearly every day! :) Connie

Snow in April? lucky! All I am getting is rain here by the beach...this is a great blog. It looks like you put a lot of work into it. Your art is good, gives me good vibes. You like using pink which is funny because I just wrote a post about how I hate pink! Haha, but you make it look great.

Such a wonderful finish! I love the use of text in collage, especially when it has a deeply personal or symbolic meaning, like favorite song lyrics. Red is also my favorite color, and I love it when it used sparingly, as an unexpected pop of bright against the background. Great work!

I love your symbolism here. And thank you so much for showing us your process.
