Illustration Friday ~ Baby
This is a spread from an altered board book entitled "Mothers' Love." It seemed to fit today's topic and it's a good thing I had something already made....it has been a week or more where the artist in me has taken a back seat to the mother I am. In fact, it's so far in the back as to be in another car altogether. I get frustrated when so much time passes and I cannot even get 10 minutes in my studio. But then I remember that I am a mother first and foremost and that snaps me back to reality.

pretty, as always! This is a tad different than normal, but I really really like it!
I want to see more of the altered book!
Beautiful Nancy. I was wanting to see what you did with the baby topic, because there would be lovely babies. The whole piece is just charming, you must be a good mother...
Best regards, Lisa
PS: I'm putting a link to your blog...
A sterilized maternity outfit?!! What will they ever think of next. The composition is wonderful and the choices you made for the babies are so sweet. You have a gift for finding all the right elements to create a mood.
An just as an aside, the word verification I had to type in for this was an anagram...
o v r a y for ovary. How about that for babyness.
nice mix of colors, texture, and images. I like the "Lane Bryant" ad in the background.
I love visiting your sepia worlds.
Hi, Nancy. I love your collage style. I admire how you can bring order to various images and combine it with storytelling. Inspiring.
"Mother's Love," the book's title, also describes you. ;-D
When my kids were little, I had no time for artmaking...once they started school, I started sewing clothes for them (which lasted until they decided that they wanted 'cool' [read: famous label] clothes.)Now they are grown and gone and I have to paint...which is really a gift. But you are right- the time for you now is motherhood...and it goes by SO fast...tomorrow we invited all 4 of our kids (and boyfriends/girlfriends) over for dinner and I can't wait to see everyone...there really is a time and season for everything...

very nice Nancy - and yes...a bit different. and everyone is right - one day they're babies and the next teenagers. it goes so fast.
Oooh, I really like this! Those altered books do come in handy sometimes. They're like an art repository.
Don't worry about the art...there will be time, the kids really are what it's all about anyway. Had 5+2=7 and many who thought this was home for them too. Gotta love it...
Thanks for sharing your art everyweek on IF. You always inspire me!

I love how you combine vintage photos with various pieces of text and it all comes together. I know how you feel, not being able to get to the art-making. My 95 year old father lives with me, and it has become a full time job caring for him. Some days I feel I am caring for a 200 pound toddler! But as everyone is saying, there is a time for everything, and our family members are so precious (a theme so apparent in your artwork!)
Hi Nancy...
what a wonderful spread for your altered book...and I love the title of the book...Mothers's Love...
You put so much passion into your pieces and I just love them...
great work as always....
Cheers,
Diana
Charming piece, lovely work. The old photos and fashions of the children and babies are particularly effective for your vintage style.
Sweet work, as always!
Always excellent!!! Your collages are totally great!
Beautiful work! And I can completely relate to the sentiments you write about as well, being another artist-mother.
Lovely!
